Born in New York in 1958, Thelma Marie Gomilas attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan before receiving a scholarship to study at La Poggerina in Tuscany, Italy, in the 1980s.

After La Poggerina, Thelma started working as a textile designer in New York City for Home Furnishing firms like Martex, Schumacher, and other known Fashion Houses. She soon started illustrating cookbooks for publishers like St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Publishers, New American Library, and Double Day.
​
Thelma's artwork has been featured in galleries located in Hoboken, New Jersey; Florence, Italy; South Hampton,
New York; Boston, Massachusettes; Westchester,
New York; Splashlight Studios, New York City;
Atlanta, Georgia; and Palm Beach, Florida.
​
After the birth of her daughter, Thelma shifted her focus from Commercial Art to Fine Art.
